Blood Leverage Bloodstone Chronicles #1

NOW AVAILABLE FOR KINDLE UNLIMITEDAs humanity struggles with the aftermath of a century long vampiric bloodbath life outside the remaining great cities revolves around being inside by sunset and never uestioning the status uo Aurora Strong is practically a pariah in her village thanks. For whatever reason vampire stories don t usually hold much interest for me My initial reaction to them is usually a roll of the eyes and some comment about another thing with vampires in it I decided to read Blood Leverage after hearing several recommendations from people I trust even though it s not my normal fareThe new twist Jillian Hazzard adds to the genre a dash of post apocalyptic dystopia is right up my alley and I found myself enjoying the story Her vamps are classical and potent able to retain an air of sensuality without all the grating self loathing that these beings so often wrap themselves inSet in the 2300s the world of Blood Leverage is one in which the majority of humanity has either been wiped out or converted into vampires as a means to greenify the Earth and reduce our consumption of resources Aurora Strong Rory to her friends lives in one of the sheltered suares where free humans as opposed to city dwelling humans who are little than slaves eke out a metered existence under the weight of constant paranoia and tight securityDue to her mother s work in writing a book exposing the truth behind the mass conversion of humans to vampire she has inherited a bit of the celebrity that goes along with it as well as the ire of one of the town s gatekeepers whose personal grudge against Rory is as immortal as anything with fangsRory is a great and memorable character a near perfect mixture of strength and vulnerability with enough attitude to get you laughing at her wit cheering for her success and biting your nails when she s in danger She has spent most of her life in her mother s shadow and doesn t even realize herself how much she wants to be out of it At one point I started to uestion her mindset as her behavior seemed a bit strange and out of character however it wound up making total sense Blood Leverage is self published and not without the occasional typo or awkward dialogue tag however the overall uality of the writing is excellent and on par or better than many traditionally published books I ve read I was hoping for a little resolution than the ending provided but to say than that would spoil The story does not feel incomplete though as Blood Leverage has a resolved story arc Rory and the gatekeeper with a chip on his shoulderI debated four stars because it s about vampires but my personal bias in that regard shouldn t reflect on the effort the author has obviously poured into the work In light of her ability to get me to enjoy reading a vampire based story I think it deserves not to have its fangs held against it I did find some of the descriptions of food and furniture a bit long in the tooth but not uite to the point of forcing me to skim Because I find myself wanting to read the seuel and it s about vampires I ve got to give credit where it s dueThis is an excellent read

To her mother’s infamous involvement with vampires not to mention her own inability to play by the rules Not content with being a mere social outcast Rory conspires in a secret and very illegal blood brokering scheme She enjoys her private rebellion against the town that shuns he. I received this book as a result of winning a giveaway and I really hoped I d adore it and become a huge fan but unfortunately that didn t happen although I did enjoy the book and believe it is a great book for a first time author I believe it could have been better it wasn t the best book I ve read or the worst the writing style was lovely but the story was slow and uite boring there was not much character development either Rated 3 Stars for beautiful writing style and good book for a first timer
