The pieces here would be almost okay if not for J Neil Garcia s convoluted ramblings on post politics globalization and the usual dismissal of the parlorista as trope in the Philippine LGBT culture as vestiges of old nationalist writing instead of as a legitimate effect of the colonial feudal and macho socio economic conditions affecting the LGBT In an attempt to go beyond the concrete analysis of these conditions Garcia resorted to universalist abstraction making the anthology not only uncritical of the conditions of its production eg Garcia defending against the remark that the Ladlad anthologies are all written by bourgeois writers but also obscuring these conditions as mere theoretical and not material dilemmas I am aching for at the very least an academia led anthology on the LGBT which recognizes its own limitations instead of celebrating these limitations a ala the cookie cutter postmodern apologists
